Best Used AWD Performance Option $25k Or Less

I need to purchase a used vehicle to save mileage, and wear and tear on my primary car, and also to utilize in messy winter conditions which we experience regularly in my region. It has to be something I can still enjoy driving, meaning at least decent performance and handling, as well as a reasonable degree of comfort and needed options. And especially since it will be used in snow and wintry conditions for drives of 25-30 miles minimum on given days, it must be all wheel drive.

I would prefer to pay $25k or less, for a car with expected long term reliability, at least reasonably low miles, and a lot of life left.

Initially, only a 2014-2015 Subaru WRX STI, or a 2014-2015 VW Golf R come to mind. Any thoughts, recommendations or alternative options would be greatly appreciated.
