2006 Bentley Continental Flying Spur front console armrest

The front seat armrest on my 2006 Bentley Continental Flying Spur apparently works on a counterbalance mechanism. Many times, after I raise my armrests, they don't go back down as they should. Most times, they go down halfway, then lock. They can be raised back up, but most times when trying to lower, they lock stop halfway.

Has anyone else experienced this issue and if so, any ideas on what you did to correct it.
