2000 dodge durango wining

My 2002 durange wines alot and accelerates when I turn left. It sounds like its in the transmission or the starter or both. Any help would do.Thanks

I don't understand why you mean by "and accelerates when I turn left." Do you mean if you turn the steering wheel to the left the Durango picks up speed?

What, if anything, have you done to diagnose the whining noise? Have you checked the condition of the belt, the idler pulleys, tensioner pulley, and level of the power steering fluid?

It's impossible for the starter to make noise when you aren't cranking (unless the bendix is bad & gear is just flopping around -even then it would be more of a grind, no whine).

So the vehicle accelerates on its own when turning left? or is that the only time it whines? A transmission can whine, but that's usually because the pump is going bad. You would "usually" have issues shifting & it would sound all the time.

To me, it sounds like it may be more like the powersteering pump or one of the sides of your rack & pinion starting to go. Need a buddy to turn the wheel from stop to stop (but don't hold longer than 2 secs at stops) while idling, have the hood open & see if you can pinpoint the whine.... that's if the issue is in the steering system.
Some more vehicle info would be helpful too.

Lol, totally agree Rod. Great points & questions too.

It was the power steering that needs replacing. Got one from pull a part and all the problems stopped. Thanks for the advice
