My car diedealers and now won't start...

My car 2001 prizm died and now it wont start at all...OK so I was pulling off the hwy 1 day after work and my car just started making a loud grinding noise and just died. I called my boyfriend we pushed it off the off ramp he tried to jump it he hit on the started a Lil bit and still nothing.. I have had a few ppl say either started or alternator. Any ideas?

I would use a proper sized socket and 1/2 drive ratchet and make sure the engine turns over. If you was trying to start it when the grinding occurred I Thing the bendix in the starter stuck.
