Re: New multimedia kit from MFH: Lancia 037 Rally 1/24

I wonder why the gearbox from the mfh kit is so much smaller than the hase one?

Capri-Schorsch: Because Hase has made a very simplified and wrong shape gearbox.

I am with Steve. I can't justify the price point for something that has already been done in this scale and to what appears to my eye to be totally acceptable. I think if they had done the Mk2 Escort again they would have sold lots as the old Esci mold (used by Revell in their issue) whilst at the time it was released in 1980ish was good, it now is showing it's age. Lots of other cars that have not been done.
It's the 1st rally car for MFH, but mostly because it is an italian car in Martini colors, which the japanese are mad about. They don't even know what a MK2 Escort looks like (ok, trolling a little bit )

They have a very wierd company policy, what the owner likes they produce, apart from the demand...

Re: New multimedia kit from MFH: Lancia 037 Rally 1/24

It all depends what you want. I can see from the pictures that clearly the MFH gearbox assembly is far more detailed and accurate than the simplified Hasegawa version. However myself, I wouldn't be too bothered about the gearbox in this car. I mostly like to build with the bodywork closed, so having a totally accurate and detailed gearbox isn't important to me. If building a fully opened up replica I could see it being very important, so it depends what kind of builder you are and what you want from a kit..

Re: New multimedia kit from MFH: Lancia 037 Rally 1/24

I had the hasegawa's one for a while and last summer, because I really like the 037, I shelled a shit load of money for the MFH 1/12 one... As much as I like that car, I won't go for the 1/24 MFH too....

Re: New multimedia kit from MFH: Lancia 037 Rally 1/24

I mostly agree with Steve, this kit is probably more detailed (what about it once model built ?! what will really be visible ?!), but the price is really too big knowing you can find a plastic kit for 10 times cheaper which already offers details !!
this could have sens if it was a never seen model, or at least a detail model beside a curbside model, but such multimedia kit is only a top range kit, not made for common modelers on one hand, and on the other hand not bringing so much on the market to justify such price.
I doubt I would pay 250€ or more even for a 205 T16 Evo2 (which I still dream about, fingers crossed Profil24 one will be good), so for a multimedia kit from a car already existing... no way !! even if more detailed and more accurate.
I've been dealing with accuracy questions for long time anyway !

Re: New multimedia kit from MFH: Lancia 037 Rally 1/24

I agree with some of the other comments. MFH should've made a kit of a subject matter that hasn't been created by other companies. No brainer for me, a hasegawa kit with many aftermarket parts which would still be half the cost if not more or a MFH?

Although thank you for the excellent review.

I don't understand why they made a resin engine and transmission when all their other kits are metal.

The answer is the bad casting of metal parts. Especially, because it is almost impossible to clean the engine or gearbox without mess the details. So, they choose resin for more smooth surfaces and easier to prepare them for painting.

The other reason is the weight. Really, the mfh kits are very heavy so any diet is very welcome.

Happy, that MFH improves the way they makes models.
