Need ideas to seal back hatch on 97 accent

Just bought this hyundai accent and it was previously in a wreck there is a huge gap inbetween the hatch and body. I only paid 400 bucks for it and looks ugly as hell so doesnt need to look professional my only idea is some waterproof tape but i would like to be able to open it of course. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. By the way the gap is probly a good inch on one side !
