turn signal lever

Anyone have trouble with the turn signal lever. Hit the lever to turn right and it does not shut off on it's own. Sometimes to get it to signal left, it wont stay on unless I tug the wheel a litte bit. Have not opened it up yet and do have the book but want to know what real world problems it could be. Thanks again in advance

Re: turn signal lever

The little actuator inside your "Multi-function switch" is getting stuck. Easy to replace and simple. There are 3 or 4 screws that you get to from the bottom and then one screw that holds the switch on.

Re: turn signal lever

I have the same issue my 98 Neon with the tilt steering. The problem is with the cancelling of Turn signal not being the same on the left vs. the right. I replaced the multi function switch twice. The most recent switch was NOS OEM part. There must be some sort of adjustment in the steering column itself, that is out of whack. Car drives straight, and the steering wheel is straight.

Re: turn signal lever

I have been through a bunch of them. The original part has a known problem with cancelling. Additionally, when you hit the brake, one of your brake lights come on.

I replaced the 1st Multifunction switch with a used one on ebay (same problem) then I bought the NOS (New Old Stock) Multifunction switch. The NOS was not the updated version, so it had the same problem (which is why it was so cheap).

You either have to live with it, or go through a lot of money and time finding the "updated" part. I have chosen to live with it, where my pinky does an extra wiggle of the turn lever, to make sure it got cancelled correctly.
