2000 contour using lots of oil smoking sometimes

I have a 2000 ford contour i think i overfilled with oil because i did not have a dipstick. But since then i have purchased a dipstick at $27 and i have had the car serviced and have replaced the pvc valve and the plugs. But it is still smoking sometimes and is labor nocking it uses a quart of oil a day. Other times it runs great.

Could be a head gasket check to see if there is oil on the manifold if not you got bigger problems like oil lee king out the side of the block also check the rear main seal to see if in tack. But that's some work their
