Re: McLaren F1-GTR long tail by Aoshima

There is some progress, but not much to show. I'm stuck in preparations stage. Glued some parts before priming and filled in seams and
injection marks. Aoshima designers managed to put most of those marks out of sight, which is great. But some still need to be filled. Fit
is great all over the kit and I'm pretty happy with that. Next will be primer.

They tooled up all of the parts, knowing they were going to release the different racing versions.

Congrats !

I have primed all the parts that needed priming. As soon as primer dries I will start painting parts in their corresponding colours.

Re: McLaren F1-GTR long tail by Aoshima

I was only able to spend one night down at my modeling workbench this weekend, but I've done
quite a bit more painting for this build. Most of other parts beside body panels are painted in their
base colors by now. Some detail brush painting is left to do and then body panels, when Gulf colors
arrive. In one hand I'm looking forward to Gulf colors, in other hand I'm a bit horrified with all the
masking I will have to do.

Re: McLaren F1-GTR long tail by Aoshima

What you plan on doing to the undersides/inside of the engine covers?

Gold metal foil, gold paint, black or even silver foil?

I am thinking on this one, thought perhaps gold foil.

Fujimi pe parts can fit barely the engine cover vents with careful gluing, havnt tried any of the other parts, I do have aoshimas detail set.

interested to see what your body will turn out like.are you doing a davidoff style or just a standard gulf blue with the orange parts going down the middle if the car, decals?

Was thinking maybe a single british flag on the left wheel louvres?

I been watching and waiting for updates, I couldnt wait to get stuck into mine, a window pillar broke on 1 door.hopefully the glass will sort it out when in place.

nice update.

For inside of engine covers I just plan to paint them SG black and may be apply some gold foil. I'm not sure yet, if racing versions actually had
anything there. Will check later. I don't think real car had any mesh inside rear engine door. Short tail didn't have anything there, I believe. At least
I cannot see any on my references for both short and long tail. I plan to build Gulf colours car with full Davidoff livery from FIA GT championship.
That's why I'm worried about future masking difficulties. Current plan is to paint blue and orange, but decals have orange stripes as well. That's unfortunate
about a window pillar on your kit. Plastic of those kits seems to be soft enough. Mine 1st kit had no damages from shipping. Didn't check other 2 yet.

Exclamation Re: McLaren F1-GTR long tail by Aoshima

Found that the exhausts leave noticable gaps when fitting the parts thaqqt have just two pipes that run to the rear.i removed the engine (miraculously) after realising that the exhaust where they join need work.intend to fill, sand, repaint and glue them to the block, then dry drop the engine back in.

just an heads up.

I did notice those unwanted seams on exhausts. But frankly I don't see a way to pre-assemble them and put in
place later. Until whole rear "sub-frame" is attached to the floor, I don't think it would be possible to align exhausts
properly. And when this "sub-frame" assembly is attached to the floor, I don't see a way to install pre-assembled
exhausts. If you figure out a way to do it, let me know. At present I plan to assemble them later as per instructions
and prepared to live with seams on exhausts.

Re: McLaren F1-GTR long tail by Aoshima

I fitted the axle etc, then went to fit them extension pipes that run to the rear, saw the prob and simply yanked thd engine out managed to come out pretty unscathed.

I broke every attachment point for the manifolds to the engine removing the exhausts but I drilled and inserted bits of metal rod in them to attach to the engine now.i reshaped the points where the 2 pipes attach and a bit of super glue for gaps, juat needs final bit of work then I can prime and check.

but without the work it will look cheap with the covers off hhe rear, thats why I am doing it and gave you an heads up.

Re: McLaren F1-GTR long tail by Aoshima

Spent about 5 hours brush painting details. Not perfect, but will do for this model. Some items are separate and not too
difficult to paint, but many details are molded on and not easy to pick out. I don't have detailed references for this car,
so I've used Aoshima's instructions and my imagination to guide my choices of colours. This build is OOB and no modifications
were done and no details added so far. I'm not so happy with detailing of brakes in this kit, but decided to leave them as is
for this OOB build. Here are some photos before assembly starts.
