Original color of the underside of the hood on a 49 Mercury Station Wagon?

What was the original color of the underside of the hood on a 49 Mercury Station Wagon? Same color as the exterior or black? If it was black, was it flat or shiny black. Thank you, Harper

Re: Original color of the underside of the hood on a 49 Mercury Station Wagon?

Every one I've seen the hood is completely one color, the exterior paint, for 49'. I've tried to find footage taken in factories doing the painting for that year but had no luck. I did see pictures of Concourse winners for 49' that the underside of the hood was the same as the outside. They would have been dinged too many points to win if that was wrong.

Thank you 65 Comet. My friend will paint his maroon, the color of the car.
