Tapping/Knocking Noise
Have a 2000 GMC Jimmy-have had nothing but problems since I purchased it (which was only a year ago) First A/C went out, then battery, then fuel pump, followed closely by the alternator. Now a week later it's making a tapping/knocking sound (comes/goes) but something is defintely wrong. Seemed to get a better for a minute once added more oil..........
If anyone has any ideas-please share. I've about had it with this truck. ![]() Thank You |

What is the oil level now? Have you checked it?If it was run for a while low on oil, there may be some serious damage internally. |

Re: Tapping/Knocking Noise
It was less than a quart low-filled it and still on/off noises--
this has been for about 3 days now-checked it everyday; hasn't gone down any further...... also sometimes the noise will go away after I drive it for awhile ![]() Thank You for taking the time to respond to me

Re: Tapping/Knocking Noise
May have a lifter sticking then. If thats the case, not much you can do other than have them replaced. If it's a knocking (deep sounding) noise from the bottom of the eng, then most likley a main bearing. But, since you said it comes and goes, I'm thinking a lifter.
