Hi everybody,

GM Canada just scrapped after they inspected my 2001 rodeo regarding the recall for rust.

They did not make me any offer yet, is anybody in the same situation ? how much money have you been offered.

Re: isuzu rodeo 2001 scrapped for recall

I have not heard of Isuzu scrapping trucks because of the recall, but it could be that far gone.

I would assume they would give you the blue book for a truck in normal shape. $3000-4000.

sucks, but at least you will be safe in a new ride ....

I had not heard of this either until now.

I found this article (click)

I agree with one comment shown oin that page:
It seems strange that there would be recalls on twelve year old vehicles for rust. Growing up in the rust belt where they salted the roads, everyone knew (and accepted) that rust was just what happened to cars over time. Seems excessive to expect car companies to fix issues due to extreme conditions.

How times have changed! In the past, the owner was entirely responsible for rust prevention /repair after a short time.

Imo $2750 is good if your truck is high mileage/thrashed. Old Isuzu's are not worth much because its an orphan brand.

But if your truck is low mileage/pristine, consider getting a second opinion about the actual rust problem and cost for any potential repairs

We are not only talking about surface oxydation on the frame, we are tlking about passing a screwdriver thru the frame right in front of the rear suspension mounting bracket...

Re: isuzu rodeo 2001 scrapped for recall

Must be pretty bad if they are scrapping it. Their offer seems a bit low to me. I would start shopping for a similar vehicle and come back at them with prices.

I agree with the comment that MagicRat posted though. I am somewhat baffled as to how Isuzu is responsible for rust problems when all cars have rust problems in certain geographic areas. This seems like a regional problem, not a manufacturing defect. My 99 Rodeo doesn't have a bit of rust in the frame and I live in a climate that gets rain and snow.

Re: isuzu rodeo 2001 scrapped for recall

The rear suspension on my rodeo broke 3 weeks ago. It has been at the dealers for 2 weeks, and I have heard nothing (this is the only car I have). The frame is rusted through about 2 feet in front of the bracket. My husband didn't use a screwdriver like Phil said, he pushed his finger through. It is so bad the you can see the individual layers of the metal from front to back. I was lucky that this happened while stopped. I just bought the thing in October of 2010, after the recall in September. I paid $5,000 for it and the only surface rust is a very small spot just above the windshield. The rest of it is in great shape, paint still looks like new. Even if we do live in an area that has salt issues, I never would have thought this would happen to a car less than 10 years old. I have had 20yo cars with no problems, so why should this one? Good luck everybody I hope you get good news, God knows I need it.
