96 park avenue fuel injector

I think I have a bad fuel injector.I have replaced the coil, plug ang plug wire but I still have a miss fire on cylinder 5 and a check engine light on.What is the diagnostic procedure to check for a faulty fuel injector?

Re: 96 park avenue fuel injector

You can ohm check it with an ohm meter and compare that value to the other injectors.

You can also pull the rail and swap it with an injector from another cylinder and see if the misfire follows it to the other cylinder.

You could buy a fuel pressure gauge and an injector tester. If fuel pressure does not drop when the injector is turned on by the tester it is bad.

Don't forget to check the compression on cylinder 5.

The fuel pressure is a little low 42 psi.would a pressure regulator cause this or must I consider the fuel pump?

Re: 96 park avenue fuel injector

Was the fuel pressure checked @ idle, or IOEO prime? Either way, the pressure is good enough and low fuel pressure would effect more than just one cylinder, if that were the problem.

Re: 96 park avenue fuel injector

The pressure was at idle and now is not setting a code. I replaced the fuel filter,The old filter was not restricted as far as I could determine.Could the MAF be acting sporadic?I tapped lightly on top of it and no change in the idle. The injector seems to be clicking and operating on that cylinder.I have not pulled the injector yet.I still need to run a compression check on that cylinder.

Re: 96 park avenue fuel injector

If the MAF were the problem, it would also effect other cylinders, not just #5. Pull the plug on #5 and post pic if you can. You may have a T/B seal, UIM leak, or gasket problem allowing coolant ingestion. BTW, #5 & #6 are usually first affected, due to their location & proximity to the T/B.

Re: 96 park avenue fuel injector

I replaced the uim gaskets about 40 k miles ago so I hope that is not the problem again. The plug was burning white and flaking on one side.
