92 jetta with idle problems when clutch is in, and acceleration issues

i have a 92 jetta that runs pretty well except when i first start out it will feel like there is no thorttle for a few seconds, and when i put the clutch in to come to a stop it idles iraticaly between 500 rpm and 2000 rpm, sometimes stalling, its a little dangerous any suggestions on what i can do to fix it would be greatly appreciated, thank you.
