Looking to Buy 2000 Passport

I have spent a bit of time on the forum...lotsa good advice for many issues. Almost too many issues that it scares me to look further at this 2000 Passport. It has 90,000 miles on it. What is the general opinion on this vehicle? I have read so many mixed reviews. Are there certain model years to stay away from when looking at Passport/Rodeo? Any help would be appreciated!

Re: Looking to Buy 2000 Passport

check for rust on the rear long arm brackets, where the connect to the frame.

alot of 2nd gen 3.2l's use oil, (not a problem if you keep it topped off)

transmission is hard to service but do-able at home.

if the vehicle is clean and the transmission shifts like it should i would consider it! mike

Re: Looking to Buy 2000 Passport

I think it depends to the service history. If you have one look for things like when was the Timing belt changed (looking at +750 to have that done at the dealer). Brakes? Front brakes typically last 100k. tires (400-600 for a set)?

at 90K I would for sure drop the tranny pan and change out the filter (~250 at the dealer)

Are you ready for 17-21 MPG?

Do you really need a true SUV for towing and offroading or will a CRV or Rav 4 work (both will get better MPG).

Any vehicle that is 10yr old with close to 100k is going to need some work.
