1987 Monte Carlo ls

So i'm not a car guy at all and i really want to be. Could anyone tell me how i can get the most HP for the cheapest price with this car. This is what i know about the car from the guy i bought it from. The engine is a 350 4 bolt somthing. It has custom dual exhaust. Where do i start. i would like to make it a sunday dragg car, but still be able to just cruise in it. I have alott of machainc friends so you can use machanical terms that i will pass to them.

Re: 1987 Monte Carlo ls

Biggest bang for your buck performance-wise is to enhance the air flow in and out. You mention it has dual exhaust. Does it still have the stock exhaust manifolds? If not, headers would be the first and best upgrade.

As far as taking air in, the stock intake is pretty good. I would just add a K&N air filter.

The 4th gen SS's (83-88) all came with a 305v8 (L69) except for those made in Mexico. So your engine has been replaced, which could be a good thing. Grab the casting #'s off the engine block and heads and that will let you determine where to go from there.

Good luck with it!

By the way, take a look at montecarloss.com and register. The site is devoted to 4th Gen Montes. There are some of the friendliest and knowledgable folks there - - - always more than willing to help out.

If you stop by, my screen name there is BlueBoy84. Post some pics and what you're looking to do, and you'll get all the info/suggestions you could ever want!
