Re: 2001 Suburban Fuel Pump

If the one you are getting at 100$ cost it is not the complete module. If just the pump without the complete fuel module/sending unit it is a poor choice. THE COMPLETE MODULE NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. If hard to steer after a alignment take it back and let them lick there calf over.

Re: 2001 Suburban Fuel Pump
[quote=MazdaX;6096521]Also to solve your mystery fuel pump thing. 100.00 is my cost.retail is actually like 275.00. Anywho..I wanted any info on shortcuts to get the fuel tank off not info on bunk pumps. As I already said, i've done my research on pumps.
This tank is big , heavy and looks like a pain in the A to get out especially since its full to the brim with gasoline. Also this suburban is seemingly lower to the ground than other ones of same make / model i've seen.I had to lift the body with a fork lift and put 3 pallets under each of the front wheels just to be able to get to the starter. I don't have a tranny jack at my disposel but I have a super nice fork lift =D Also are the hose clamps on the 2001 models for the fuel pump module the quick connect style or are they the typical ring clamp ? I'm not too concerner about breaking the elbows for the shot fuel pump but i'd prefer not to screw up the hoses. You really want to get the truck on a lift to do it right. My first pump went at 150,000 miles, shop charged $300.00 labor to drain and then remove more than half-full tank. On another trip, again far from home, at yes, 300,000 miles, shop only charged $150.00 because they used a transmission jack to lower the almost-full tank without draining, saved a lot of time. Now I'm at 452,000 and thinking I should fabricate an access panel in the floor! |

Re: 2001 Suburban Fuel Pump
Well I can lift the suburban as high as I need to and the guys down the complex are willing to weld me some custom stands to set the frame on for 50.00. This is why I am most likely going to use the fork lift. It has angle / side shift/ up down , L/R tilt so I can get the lift in there however I have to.
Should I be concerned with some sort of special tools needed for this job ? I have all my basica hand tools and a few power & air tools to remove larger fasteners. I have enough hand tools to strip my ( now sold ) eclipse down to bare bone =D I just know how GM likes to screw with all the DIYers and make special nuts&bolts and connectors that require a spendy tool for a small job and I am wondering if I can expect any of that with the tank or is it pretty much a walk in the park like everyone makes it sound ?

Re: 2001 Suburban Fuel Pump
ok so i've got the tank disconnected from the filler neck , straps are off and the only thing left is to disconnect the evap and pressure lines and there is a strange loop blocking the 'inner workings' of the connectors. Do I need a GM specific tool for these and if so whats the name of it ? or a part # so I can snag it from Autozone or something.
Also how many lines are there that actually need to be disconnected ? I can only see one and the wire harness. I don't have the tank down all the way so I can't completely see 360 around the tank but just enough to see the wire harness and on the front of the tank by the evap box sitting next tot he drive line. I would like to have this all wrapped up by tomorrow if possible so any speedy feedback is appreciated =D

Re: 2001 Suburban Fuel Pump
The wire connector may have a saftey sliding tab red in collor if so remove it and push down on wiring plug lock tab.
I am not a speedy person. But. If you got all line disconnected just unplug the wiring plug. Always check front and rear of tank for vent hoses. Also some fuel pumps require a new wiring plug in kit

Re: 2001 Suburban Fuel Pump
Wow this was way easier than I expected it to be. And for the fuel removal I just used a mini-pair of needle nose pliars and it worked like a charm. All said and done , only took 3 hours of work.Yay for life returning..haha.

Not bad time. Is all running good and well now? I always like to recheck fuel pressure after fuel pump replacement. Good Luck
