I have a hidden electrical loss in my 89 diesel Jetta. I disconnected the battery and ran a test light to it to check all of my spark plugs and the only one that brings the light on is my clock fuse, as it should. This leads me to believe that my short or such is in the engine somewhere. Any thoughts on that? My alternator works fine as the car is running and runs for as long as I want after a jump. The battery light flickers when it is running though and it's speed of flicker changes based on RPM. Could I have an internal prob in my alternator because my belts are fine and it charges but could it be drawing power when it isn't running? I'm going to check my glow plugs when it is charged up today to see if they are ever shutting off because that would explain a lot. The Battery is brand new too. What do you think? Almost seems engine related because when I hit the gas either the light shuts off after starting and running at low RPM and starts to flicker again above maybe 3K or it flickers constantly and just flickers more or less at high RPM depending on how it feels. Don't want to take alt off if I don't have to all the mounts and pulley adjusters are frozen solid.
Thanks, Love this car it's a legend
