How do I read the VIN number?

I have a 91 prizm, most of the sites for car parts I ve visited heve been showing Vin "5" and vin "6" for the parts. I know the vin is the 8th digit of my number, witch is 8, but there are no specific parts for this. Someone told me it means that my car can take the "6" vin parts because its considered 6 abd up. Is this true?

what is the tenth digit of the vin. I do not see an 8 engine code for a prizm until 1993. An m would be a 1991, an n a 92, p a 93

Hi even some enginer also asked me what is Vin number of engine i said i dont know but where to find this one and how to find this one
