1996 jimmy hazard button broke

So far I have messed with it enough to learn that the button needs to be half way to be off. I think it hits metal and I see a spark...and it grounds it so it does not go off. My dad wants me to find a new button but I don't think that's going to work. I'm thinking of just getting a strong, thin piece of metal and super gluing it to the hazard button. If I can't do that, does anybody know how to remove the top part of the plastic around the steering column? Any help is GREATLY appreciated. I'll take some pictures momentarily.

Call any GM dealer to see if they have the part in stock.
I got mine from a Buick dealer, who also told me of the stock at Chevy and Pontiac dealers.

Here's a link, with part numbers, on how to fix it.

Thank you so much! My dad was flipping out over this! We thought we had to completely take the steering column apart!

Re: 1996 jimmy hazard button broke

If anybody reads this, there is an easy fix. Simply cut the spring once you remove the thing (from the link) Cut it a little more than half. You see, the hazard lights will go off if you press them in all the way in, or if it's disengaged (when you press the button in, it clicks and releases it) The trick is to press with a screwdriver or something and note how much you need to have it at to not set the hazard lights off. I got it on the first try but I'm guessing it's not that easy. The only down side is you don't have working hazard lights (but who uses them anyway?)
