Whistling Radiator Cap?

Hey guys,

A little out of my league here trying to figure out someone else's SRT and I don't do turbos much (ie at all). And this thing is pissen me off.

Spent all afternoon last Sunday trying to track down this screeching noise that ended up being from the radiator cap. I mean it was so loud it was hard tell where it was coming from Replaced and all seemed well.

Car came back the next day, same thing?

Obviously there's too much pressure in the system. When I ran it for a second with the cap off, it shot coolant up about a foot out of the housing neck. There is no sign of oil in the coolant so I'd safely say the head gasket is ok. Is there anyway the turbo could be leaking into the system?

Thanks for any ideas.

Re: Whistling Radiator Cap?

just because there is no oil in the coolant doesnt rule out head gasket failure. it is possible that compression from one (or more) cylinders is leaking into the coolant. the turbo shouldnt be doing much of anything at idle so i wouldnt think that has anything to do with it. Sounds like there is way too much pressure in the system. you should be able to run the car without the radiator cap for a few short minutes till it starts to get warm then will start to spill out.

check a few things:
-Compression check all cylinders to check for low numbers, all should be around 160.
-Look at the radiator hoses and check for kinks or collapsed hoses.
-Drain and flush the radiator it might be blocked.

id think id lean more towards compression leak into the cooling system.
let us know what you find.

Oh, forgot to update, leaking intake manifold gasket was the culpret. Really weird it didn't trip a MAF code, but all is well.
