Wont stay running PLEASE HELP!!!
I have 77 Granada that wont stay running. I have replaced the Battery, battery cables, starter, siliniod, altenator, and voltage regulator. you have to jump the car at the moment because battery has ran dead from trying to start. once started runs for a while and dies. The altenator light comes on sometimes. While running if you disconnect the positive batttery wire the car dies. Took the altenator back had tested thought that was it but tested fine. Please Help been fighting with this for a month now.

Re: Wont stay running PLEASE HELP!!!
I would try a new fuel filter. On these older Ford's the carburetor needs cleaned. Do you think its running out of fuel try spraying some starting fluid into the carburetor if it starts up immediately its a fuel problem.

I would disconnect the battery ground and use a 12 volt test light. Put the test light between the ground wire and negative terminal. If the light lights unplug the voltage regulator and test again. On older Fords this was the primary cause of dead batteries. Otherwise disconnect one fuse at a time until you find the problem. A bad alternator can also cause a ground unplug it and try. The regulator has to be grounded for it to work. I've had to sand the mounting surface to get them to charge. |
