1987 Buick Riviera T-Type
I have a wrecked 87' Riviera T-Type that has some damage to the front passenger-side near the battery. Before the wreck, most things were working fine aside from a few electrical shorts or bad motors in the seat controls... Anyway, after the wreck, the vehicle was put into reverse, backed up, put into drive, and then pulled off the side of the road - the engine did not die upon impact. Which leads me to believe the engine and transmission is fine. However, after the motor was turned off; we've been unable to get it to start back up and it doesn't make any noise when trying to start it...
I know very little about motor vehicles and what I do know is from reading a few things online (no hands on exp). The lights come on, inside of the cabin and on the dash when the key is turned. That leads me to assuming that the ignition and battery are fine. The lights do not dim or flicker while attempting to start the vehicle but to be sure that the battery was not damaged I had Advance Auto Parts check and fully charge it. Therefore, according to my research, the problem is probably the wiring, the relay, or the starter itself.
However, all of this troubleshooting is based on my readings and general troubleshooting knowledge from my computing experience. I looked in the owners manual and found a 3V Starter Fuse in the fuse box and upon inspection, it looked fine. However, I was told that there is normally a 12V Relay for the starter and I was unable to find it listed in the manual or in either of the two relay centers. Does the 87' Buick Riviera T-Type have a Starter Relay? If so, where would I find it? If not, what would be my next step? Additionally, is there any sort of engine map or diagram that shows where everything is - I'm lucky to find where to put the oil in...
I've always been one that likes to learn new things but there isn't anyone in my family or close to me that knows much about vehicles so I'd appreciate your attention to detail and additional effort to speak in laymen terms when assisting me.
Thanks
