New Problem Code 32
After all that work I developed a new problem today, the idle got a little rough and the check engine light came on and I got a code 32 on display. I know it says EGR but I just replaced it, along with IAC valve, map sensor, and the list goes on. I asked a buddy about it and he suggested replacing the O2 sensor. I got a bit of traveling to do tomorrow because of the holiday and was wondering if I should get up early and get me an O2 sensor or if someone thinks Im chasing a dead end or not. I do have an exhaust leak just before the muffler would that cause a check engine light to pop up. Its had a hole there for over a year and its never been a problem. Getting a little frustrated! This van runs great all summer, the Alaskan winter hits us and it starts going to crap. I wouldnt have a problem with some summer time after work auto projects in the driveway, but damn its cold here!! What do you all think?

Re: New Problem Code 32
Make sure the PCV valve is either a Robertshaw or AC Delco unit ONLY, and that it is the one specifically designed for your engine. I've had aftermarket PCVs that were not porperly calibrated causing EGR errors on TBIs, high/uncontrollable idle, lean error codes, and other nuisance problems like higher oil consumption. I'm not mentioning any names, but the aftermarket PCVs which have caused me the most problems were sold by a company also making orange oil filters.

Re: New Problem Code 32
Started up the vanimal today after replacing the PVC valve with an AC Delco one and it sounded like a rod knockin, the idle was so rough and low that it almost woudnt run. Still a code 32 was the only thing showing on the dash so for kicks I thought I would pull the EGR off, I loosend only one bolt and took it out when the EGR fell. WHAT THE F*%*. Come to find out it was a bad casting and the thing cracked due to the vibration of normal driving. I took it back to the parts house knowing they would never replace the part but to my surprise he did take it back in exchange for another EGR. Installed the new EGR and now were back on the road.

Re: New Problem Code 32
Thanks for reporting back with the results. It sounds like you found your vacuum leak.
![]() It's strange that an EGR would have infant mortality, but you were just the unlucky one in that "percentage of failure" category. At least it wasn't anything major, and the bolts were already loosened from the first replacement.

Re: New Problem Code 32
Thanks for the tip on the PCV Blue Bowtie. It drives me crazy when people dont post there fix. I just thought I would throw this info out there because this wasnt the first returned part back to this certain part house due to bad casting. Allthough it was the first EGR returned I was informed they have had a water pump and a few alternators returned due to cracking in weak areas specifcally around bolt holes. If you do come across this you can see the color diffrence in the metel casting itself. Its rather obvious its not due to over tighting. Just a heads up. Thanks again.....

Re: New Problem Code 32
I too had an egr break off at the mounting hole, unbolted one side and it fell off. For the price of replacement this shouldn't happen.
