Jaguar XJR-8 LeMans 1987

Finally had the time to make some nice photos of the finished model.
Some little progress can be seen here:
http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...d.php?t=929089

Build it nearly straight oob, only minor changes. Violet body parts were sprayed instead of using decal, some PE-parts for the seat-belt, added bigger brakes at the front and calipers at the rear. I also scratch-built two new filler caps, because i wasnīt satisfied with the simple ones at the body.
Exhaust was painted with alclad chrome, radiator with Testors chrome.

All in all it was a nice and easy kit, great fit of parts. I only had some trouble with those dry-transfer tyre-decals. They didnīt stick to the slightly sanded tyres. I replaced them with Revell decals which might be a little big, but i still like the overall look af the finished model.

Enough talk!

Well that was quick and the result looks great!

Reminds me about those XJR boxes in my stash :-) I'll quite possibly follow your decision to paint the purple whenever i get to them. I have decals from Tamiya, Hasegawa and S27 and the purple is different on each of them and none really fit my reference pictures .-)

Great Job!! A note about those tire decals, they will not stick if you touch the exposed back side because of oils in your skin. They stick better if you paint the sidewall with a clear first. I use a coat of Poly S satin clear brushed on. When the decal is dry I brush on a coat of Poly S flat clear to seal them.

@ 935k3 you mean Testors Poly Scale Acrylic clear? If yes, do you paint the entire sidewall of the tires or just the part where you put the decal?
Anyway interesting idea and tehnic. I never used this type of decals befor but now i have two Tamiya kits they are waiting to be ansambled...

The Testor's brand showed brush strokes, I paint the entire side wall. This must be done with the wheel in the tire because bendind the tire to get the wheel in causes the paint to crack. I also scrub the tire thorughly before applying anything.

Re: Jaguar XJR-8 LeMans 1987

Thanks for your comments!

@jaykay
Actually the violet of the Hasegawa decal and the one i sprayed looks quite the same. Looking at the photos it seems thereīs a big difference, but there isnīt.
BTW: Iīve seen you get the silk-cut colours from Zero-paints, if you like. Maybe you give them a try.

@935k3
Are you talking about dry-transfer or waterslide-decals? Never had problems with waterslide ones. I cut them as narrow as possible, apply them on the sanded tyre and give them a drop of "Mr Mark Softer" after drying.

Re: Jaguar XJR-8 LeMans 1987

As you did the brake calipers, are they attached to the brake discs? Because if so they will turn as the car goes forward?
I'm building this kit too and I will scratch the brake calipers...
