2001 Taurus wagon will not shift out of park
My daughter has a 2001 Taurus wagon. It was running fine and she pulled ito a parking lot to get something for her baby and shut the car off and when she started it a couple of minutes later the car would not shift out of park. The shifter will move but the transmission is not engaging. There were no problems with the car prior to this.

Welcome to AFs! It sounds like the shifting cable may have broken. I would lift the hood and find the shifting cable on the transmission. Have someone move the shift lever while watching the end of the cable. This should give you a starting place. Regards Dan
