turn signals

When I turn my turn signals on either left or right it will work for a little while the just stop and stay lite up and wont work for awhile any ideas whats wrong

The flasher is defective. If it will work long enough you will be able to find it by the sound. It's under your front dash. Most likely close to the fuse box.
