1.9 DOHC High mileage ??

What is anyone's experience with high mileage on the 1.9 DOHC?

Have a '92 SL2 1.9 DOHC with 200,000 miles. The head is cracked (from overheating due to radiator ex-son-in-law wouldn't fix) and I'm trying to figure if it would be wise to replace cylinder head with reman on this engine with that many miles. Car is in good condition and ran smooth before the head cracked.

Re: 1.9 DOHC High mileage ??

This is a tough question. 200k is a middle aged engine. If taken car of the engine may be worth fixing. This means regular oil changes and proper tune ups throughout its life. Saturn engines have been known to go 520K and still get 42mpg!

However if you have no idea of the status of its past....i would suggest a new engine or car. You are limited to a '91-'92 engine Only as anything after those years requires major modification to the engines.

Its a shame it was over heated

Re: 1.9 DOHC High mileage ??

My first Saturn has over 230K on it and runs great still. My second and third Saturns have 250,000 and 228,000 respectively.

I'm still fixing up the third one but my second runs great and gets 30+mpg city.

These cars will last forever if taken care of.
