1/24 R43 '78 Sanremo Pirelli Stratos

I need to clear a bit my resin stash and.... simply I'm not able to sell anything, I love so much my little resin sons...

So I thought to do some quick kerbside OOB projects, just the "right" amount of details, and some experiments in a new area, but you'll discover later.

I got some trouble masking the 1K clear ever with the dammn 3M tape but at last everything gone well with an accurate sanding>polishing.

quickly:

The Gandini design is well captured by Chiappatti: he's famous for his 1/43 Stratos, the size is not so far from the Hase's Stratos but looks more "badass", massive... eventually a good brick of resin

I got it quickly done: flat automotive bases, Zero's Philips R5 Red (plus a drop of black) and Z' black, followed by a couple of 2K clear hands, sanded at #2000 grit (wet), than I applyed decals. I thought was better spray the red insthead to use the R43 decals to avoid coverage issues.

Than I covered all with a couple of great 1K hands, sanded a bit, polished with meshes..

Than I masked upper surfaces to apply the matt (Vallejo Air Satin) to the black (I applied decals on the gloss black to avoid silvering troubles)

the "BUT":

as expected (well I hoped not but I knowed the thing....) the tape released texture on the clear..

ok the result after a last polishing was ok

You'll see at the left side the effect before the polishing.

I sanded and polished all the gloss area and the result is good yet. Lucky me!

Few other details and then the experimentation: (ok I post this one since we have a storm every afternoon here and I'm worry to lost all the post...)

see you here after the pubblicity break

Looks very good so far and nice work eradicating the troubles you had with the masking tape.I have the Hasegawa 1/24th version of this kit to build and also in the same Pirelli scheme, so I shall follow your progression with interest.Keep the updates coming!!!

Re: 1/24 R43 '78 Sanremo Pirelli Stratos

The few details I thought to add: kit's disks and calipers are obscene..

I thought they was almost covered by the rims but you'll see that brakes are well noticeable. Calipers would be the resin one modified: thiniest calipers I seen ever.

Burn out tool:

Ok I'm switching now from Mr. gio to Doctor Gionc, the badass one: I ever desired to have in some of my kerbside resin kits steerable wheels: they add a lot of realism, and at last I guess car are designed to be driven on street/track insthead on train rails... so..

Ok I dunno pretend to have done a masterpiece: theyre just crap speaking of design and realism: but they work: (and at least are covered up on a curbside model)

(notice that the clear is still sanded another time since after few days the orange peel and the mask mark was another time visible due the thinner evaporation, now I wait the end to polishing it one last time.)

I think I will develop the system, may be to be casted in resin since alu milling is quite time consuming.

Nice "little" project.
I like your steering solution.

And I like even more :

Does that mean that you'll be selling this system in the future ?
I have some resin kits to be build and a working steering mechanism would be great on those...

"F.Alen"!!! Must be Fabrizzio Alen, a secret brother of Markku Alen... I didn't know he was driving this, instead of Markku. By the way the navigator name was I.Kivimäki, with V, not W. Great livery anyway!!!

Cute! The matt black looks great. And the steering mechanism looks nice and solid, very clever.

Looks great, one lovely car, the steering works well, worth doing, makes all the differance. I have had the same problem with the masking tape in the past, a real pain.

Is this the same company as Arena Modelli? I have two of their 1:24 Stratos' from LM '76 and LM '77. I bought them sight-unseen a few years back and was just thinking of pulling them out to work on them.

Either way, excellent work recovering from the paint mishap. Looking good.

Not: this one is from Racing 43, you'll see a different viewpoint in the engineering and model's concept. I got the Arena Stratos turbo too since was prototyped by my scuderia's partner and friend Luca Cavicchi: I'm also playing with the idea of pulling out also the track's one. If someone got picts of the '76 or '77 LM stratos they're well accepted so far.

I have a very few of each car that I collected to build mine. I will check when I get home tonight and post them for you.

As promised Lancia Stratos at Le Mans, 1976 and 1977. This is all I have, but am always looking for more. Hope they're of use.
