Unhappy 1997 kia sportage timing belt

My car died on me when i was driving this morning. I was able to tow it to a mechanic. he said there might be engine damage because the timing belt broke. I am wondering if on a 1997 its a non interference engine or interference engine. I just got the car from a mechanic two weeks ago so i am a bit stressed.

The Single Overhead Cam is an interference type, but the DOHC is definitely a non-intererence, whatever they list in various part sites. INstall new belt, time properly, bolt everything back and go.
THe belt kit is available under $100 on e-bay complete with tensioner, idle, water pump.
