Air bag light

I have a 97 GMC Jimmy with 85k. The air bag light blinks the required 7 times after starting the vehicle. It goes out for approximately 3-5 seconds but then comes on steady. I've checked the fuse for the airbag as Mitchell's On Demand indicated a steady light was a fuse issue. Unfortuneatly, the fuse was good. Has anyone else had this issue? Any ideas as to how to correct this issue?

Thanks

Re: Air bag light

On a GM vehicle, the airbag light should come on for @ 6 seconds, and then go off if the system is working properly. If there is a fault or a problem in the system, the light will remain illuminated, or flash continuously. These systems can only be diagnosed using a scanner designed for the airbag system. The scanners at Auto Zone or the ones that sell for @ $50 will not access the airbag system, only the engine systems (check engine light).
Check out these websites for more info on airbag system.
