Bucking just over idle

Hello,
I just purchased a shadow 2.2 auto cheap thinking i may be able to fix the problem it has. It starts fine and idles good but just over idle (less than quarter throttle it will buck at any speed ie; at take off ro at highway speeds. When you apply just a bit more throttle it smoothes out and anything past that up to wide open throttle is good. I really dont know where to start and was hoping someone here may have some input as to what to look for. I have checked the egr valve and it was not stuck but i cleaned it with carb cleaner and compressed air anyway. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks Shawn

Re: Bucking just over idle

I bet its probably just dirty injectors. I wonder if its carb'd or TB?
If its carbureted, tear it down and clean all of it and see if it works.
If its TB or other type of injection, run some strong injector cleaner through a tank of gas and see if it helps.
You could run the cleaner through it even if it is carb, some cleaners are made for carb engines too. But if that doesnt work, taking it apart and cleaning all of it thoroughly will get it working like new. See if that helps, and let us know.

Re: Bucking just over idle

What year model and how many miles?

A possibility could be the throttle position switch (if fuel injected). It could have a rough spot in the first one-third of travel above idle. I can't say I ever experienced such a condition with my Shadow, though.

Keep us posted on the outcome.

Re: Bucking just over idle

It is 91 w/TB. I did find a site with engine code breakdown so i went through the motions of checking them and it did show a TPS code. The web site says the TPS is working out of it's parameters which is above i think 4.6V.
I did throw a bottle of lucas injector cleaner in but that will take a couple hundred miles to do its thing. The car has 130,000 miles so it not anything special just a winter car. I have had several small mopars in the past and had good luck with them along with a couple friends with GLHS turbo omni's which were incredible. Thanks for the help guy's, there's not much out there on the web for our shadows is there.

Re: Bucking just over idle

A new TPS sensor isn't very expensive at your local auto parts store. You either have a bad connection or the sensor is dead and you need to replace it.
