2001 Durango AC not Cold
For the past month my AC has been intermittingly switching between cool and warm. There is no mist coming out and it is blowing air.
I finally took it to mechanic, and he found no problem. He said it was probably the expansion valve. He said that with this model their have been problems. So 500 dollars later, my ac is still blowing hot air. Any insight? |

Re: 2001 Durango AC not Cold
WHAT????? For $500 he reported 'no problem'?? Don't tell me he actually took your money for that answer.
So how did he explain to you that intermittently switching to warm air was no problem? Sure, it could be the expansion valve, or it could be a number of other things, but if he concluded expansion valve, THEN FIX IT. A competent A/C technician will have no problem figuring out and fixing the problem. Sorry, but that resolution is absurd. Go back and get a straight answer and a fix for your $500.

I'm betting the blend door is sticking.

(PS - I agree with BB...that's one possibility).

Re: 2001 Durango AC not Cold
I have spent about $1000.00 on my ac, and it is not working. If it is the blend door, how do I fix it. I understand that it is mostly labor cost involved with this fix.

Re: 2001 Durango AC not Cold
you probably have it fixed by now, but the blend door is absolutely right on most of the time. See my response earlier today to a thread about the same issue. Disconnect the heater hoses, splice them together, and run it for a while to see if that helps. If it does, leave it until winter, then hook the heater back up. Beats the hell out of giving someone $1000 for all the labor involved.

Re: 2001 Durango AC not Cold
Actually fairly easy. At auto parts house there are bubble paks of heater hose splice/repair parts. Buy one the right size for your hoses, take the hoses off the heater at the firewall, and splice them together. Use a hose clamp on each side. If this doesn't work, then you know there are other issues. But for a couple of bucks and an hour work, it might do the job during the summer.

Re: 2001 Durango AC not Cold
If you havent already cut and spliced your hoses a shut off valve can be put in the inlet side of the heater hose. Its much easier and less messy to reverse when you need the heater.
