Explorer won't start unless gas pedal is depressed
Hello, I am new to this forum, but I have been searching everywhere for answers and coming up empty. I have a 99 Explorer Sport that I just spent the whole weekend replacing the alternator, tension assembly and serpentine belt on. I thought this would remedy a problem I have been experiencing off and on for about a year now. Sometimes the vehicle will only start if i have the gas pedal depressed. It seems to start, idle for a short time then just die. I am at a loss for what it could be. I thought maybe spark plugs, but am not leaning towards something in the fuel system. Anyone have any good suggestions or advice?
Thanks in advance. |

Re: Explorer won't start unless gas pedal is depressed
More than likely either the fuel filter, fuel pump, or idle speed control motor

Most likely idle air control valve, make sure you clean throttle body with throttle body cleaner not carburetor cleaner. Good Luck

I appreciate the direction. I have gotten the Throttle body cleaner and a new fuel filter. I will start there. Thanks.
