Question Replace trunk hinges w/ struts

I was wondering if anyone has replaced their trunk hinges with struts or if anybody knows if this will work. I find that the hinges are always getting in the way. I have 2 young kids and always have stuff in the trunk and it seems as if the hinges are always going down hitting my strollers or something else when I close the trunk. I know many new cars come with them and can't see why Ford didn't do this on the Gen 4 Taurus. Almost all of the GM mid/full size cars dont use hinges. Any ideas let me know please. I have a 2001 Taurus.

Thanks
