i have a 2001 toyota sienna and the passenger side window is acting up. i would be driving and decide to row down the window all the way but when i want to row it back up it would not work. then after driving and stopping trying to figure out whats wrong it will row back up just fine. weird isnt it? this happened about 3 times already so i no its a problem. any ideas of what can be causing this? is this a common problem or just mine?

I have a 2001 Sienna that does the exact same thing. I have no idea as to what causes it. If you find out please let me know.

Not so fast.

If it's still working intermittently, it's very possible that some connector is loose or wiring problem.

Re: sienna window problem is it just me?

Alright everyone I've just been to the dealer with my 04. There seems to be a plastic piece that attaches the window to the arms that raise it. This is a part of the window, having said that.. you either spend $218.00 on a window or take your chances a "resin/glue" which my dealer did and reattach. The tech said it should hold but if it didn't they would not charge labor if I had to come back and purchase a window.

Did your passenger window fix work? How much did the dealer charge you for the glue job? My driver's side window is acting like this, but it seems like the motor just cuts out like it has overheated or there's not enough torque to get the window up. I'd sure like to know if it's not a motor problem. Thanks!

Re: sienna window problem is it just me?

Have the same problem on my 2001 with 85K - passenger side only. In my opinion, the motor is tripping out on overload/overheat. Since it always works five minutes later, it seems that it is a thermal switch that cools down and restores the function. I'm going to remove the door panel and lubricate the slide mechanism - some day!

Re: sienna window problem is it just me?

My 01 driver's side power window acts up as well. As long as I lower it about half way through, it goes back up fine. If I lower it anywhere below that, then it goes up about 1/2 inch at a time, each time I try to pull up the window. It used to work fine if I stopped the engine and restarted it, but not any more.

The toyota dealer near me says to replace both the motor and the regulator -- a $600 job. They already charged me a bunch for diagnosis!

I would appreciate if others shared their experience with this problem.

thanks.

Took my Sienna to an independent repair shop. They replaced the motor. Cost was $77.69 for the motor and $52.20 for labor.

Re: sienna window problem is it just me?

I think that you have a different issue, your motor is out of time, do you remember disconecting the battery or the control on the door? if not, you might check on your kids. it happends. whenever the window goes automaticly to half way either up or down, the motor is out of time

Red face Re: sienna window problem is it just me?

I have a 2005 Sienna and the passenger front window did not want to close a few weeks back. I could get it to inch up if I waited a few moments between attempts. It was as if it had to cool down between tries. I had been doing a lot of highway driving that day. Anyway, the problem has not come back. Fortunately I am still under warranty, however, I called the dealer and they thought the tracks might need lubricating. That does not make sense to me so I concerned that they may not find the real problem.

Re: sienna window problem is it just me?

My dad has a 2001, his drivers side does the same thing ( goes down ok but when you go to raise it up it over heats and shuts down), today I will be replacing the motor for the second time. But this time I am going to lubricate the window guides and see if I can adjust the sprtng tension on the regulator.

Re: sienna window problem is it just me?

Well, I replaced the motor, lubricated the window guides but you can't adjust the spring tension. I did notice that the rail that the window bolts to. Has two rollers that ride inside of this rail. They look to me like they are worn out. I might have to go back in and replace the regulator.
The window seems to be working alright for now. I told my dad to try and keep the window guides lubricated.
I think the key to this might be to lubricate the window guides. I'm assuming these motors have some sort of torque limiter inside of them. When the motor feels a change in torque it shuts down. Just like when you raise or lower it all the way.
