How to remove the dipstick in a 99 cavalier
99 Cavalier 4 cylinder.
Dipstick and oil filler tube combined. Yellow cap turns, but dipstick does not come out easily. How do I remove it? |

Ok,
so this is not threaded, If I turn and can pull hard enough there are ears that line up like on a valve cover filler cap? |

it's not a complicated matter, you just turn it and it comes out

Re: How to remove the dipstick in a 99 cavalier
I'm gonna check the Factory Service Manual on this one.
This should go over well. The '96s have threaded caps.

Re: How to remove the dipstick in a 99 cavalier
I got busy this morning and wasn't able to get back for a reply.
It was complicated because I had been turning, or trying to turn it, and it wasn't coming out. I broke an air chamber on my Caravan trying to find the air filter and I wasn't interested in a repeat of broken parts on this car. (I haven't had a GM car for a long time.) I had tried at least three times to get it out and looked at both the owners manual and a 96 service manual prior to hunting up this forum and making a post. The cap is threaded with a spiral thread and derk eliso's advice of turning left and pulling finally worked. The dipstick is floppy in its connection to the lid, so I don't know if I have broken something anyway. Now after all that, I am going to have to take it to the shop anyway because it is developing a starting problem. Thanks to all who commented for me. fb |
