Engine denied by transmission

Hey guys anyone have a tip for me im trying to get this danm engine back in the t.a and for some reason i can get it all the way into the transmission but i have like a one inch gap and i cant get it flush. i have checked everything nothing is holding the engine from moving further back it just simply doesnt want to go into the tranny i have lowered and raised the tranny and the engine at the same time and am getting nothing theres got to be an easier way.

Re: Engine denied by transmission

Make sure everything is lined up ie clutch/torque converter, transmission splines, guide pins etc. It sounds like something needs to be turned a little bit.

Re: Engine denied by transmission

forgive me... i dont have your engine tranny combo memorized. what tranny/engine is it?

has the tranny been worked on? rebuilt?

maybe loosen the trannt mount and slide it forward (if your mount can do that)
wrong input shaft?
rotate and push torque converter until fully seated.
wrong torque converter for your application?
take tranny out and drop both in at the same time.

Re: Engine denied by transmission

i dunno that gen too well myself, but can u hook the tranny and engine together outside of the car and then raise them up into the car..or is this a lift-less project? with a lift i know this can be done with at least a ls1....

Re: Engine denied by transmission

I'll second the converter not being fully seated. That is the only thing on the trans that could keep it from mating to the engine.
No, you can't lift a 1st-3rd gen engine/trans combo into place from below. You need a hoist and load leveler to lower it in from the top.

Re: Engine denied by transmission

its a pontiac 400 with a 400 tranny all the parts are correct for my application im 100% sure i think im going to just take out the engine then pull the tranny out and put them both together then place them in.
