Track Time: Bad Day

Well I went to Fontana Speedway along with my buddy Danno, in his 05 Pontiac GTO. It was fucking cold. The temperature was 38 degrees, which is cold for California. I thought my car would be pumping out alot more wattage in the cold dense air, but that wouldn't matter, as the wind was retarded.

I almost got my head knocked off twice opening my car door once, and opening a port a potty, while having the wind slam the door into my head. No real damage was done luckily, I think

I should've just left the track, cause the wind literally almost knocked me off of my feet, especially being all weak and frail at 162lbs. Anyways, here are the times, and the people that I raced.

I met a guy with a 01/02 WS6 like mine. The only difference being is this fool can drive. He has a catback exhaust, cold air intake, and smooth bellows. He also has nitrous, but since he didn't have a bottle heater it had no pressure, due to the cold air (BTW my nose was running like a faucet). He asks me to run him, and I agree. We call for a grudge match, and it is on. I get a seriously sick burnout, and thought for a second, due to the car not hopping, that maybe I broke the rear, as it felt like a cushy burnout with no side to side motion. I'm going up to stage, and don't see the staging area at all (No line to see). I go for about 20 feet, making a complete and utter ass of myself. I reverse into the beams, and he does so, likewise. Only problem is the stager doesn't give him a second to put the revs up on his car. As soon as the guy triggers the staging lights, we are signaled to go. I'm looking at him, wondering if he is staged yet, and see the third ember. Shit, shit, I launch a split second after him. Luckily he has a worse 60' (he's on nitto drag radials), due to him not being able to get his rpms up. This is what we both ran:
Him/Me
R/T .027/.226
60' 2.218/2.122
330' 5.705/5.707
1/8 8.651/8.637
mph 83.07/85.15
1000' 11.188/11.139
1/4 13.330/13.233
mph 104.65/108.00

He was quite livid at the stager. He has run a 13.1 sec. 1/4 mile as well (With a 1.9 sec. 60'). He told me he powershifts. Judging by his horrible 60', but decent 1/4 mile, I believe him.

Next up, I was just like fuck it, I feel the wind get even worse, and know that it's a long shot for me to get a decent mph (To be honest I primarily just wanted to trap high ). I decided to heck with finding a decent car to race, but fate gave me a great car to run against. I ran against a 5.7L GTO. It was modded, but I didn't know all of the mods it had. I knew that it had drag radials by seeing it next to me, and exhaust. Anyways, these are the times that I ran:

Him/Me
R/T .337/.138
60' 2.119/2.209
330' 5.725/5.835
1/8 7.616/8.813
mph none indicated (Problems with computation)/83.84
1000' 11.191/11.346
1/4 13.335/13.466
mph 37.58/106.70

I had a horrible burnout. The car just almost immediately grabbed.

So much for their being a headwind. I'm rather disappointed with the mph, but I think the mph will be alot higher in better conditions.

Re: Track Time: Bad Day

At least you got to go out and do some races. That does seem awful cold for Cali though. And if your numbers are right your buddy sure trapped a low speed for running a 13.3. I have to think it was higher than 37mph lol. Just busting your ass. But seriously fix it.

Re: Track Time: Bad Day

Definitely work on your 60' times!! I've pulled better 60' times in my FWD celica on street tires. I think you could easily get into the 12's with a good launch and cooperative track conditions.

Re: Track Time: Bad Day

From the title I thought you had crashed. Any day at the track when the car drives home is a good day. Although the times maybe dissappointing. Sucks about the wind though.

I've pulled better 60' times too. I was more or less scared of launching at a higher rpm, cause everyone kept telling me my 10 bolt would blow up

Next time out i'm gonna do a brake stand for a good 5 sec. and then launch at 4K rpms.
