Exclamation Calculating your top speed per gear

I added a caluclator to my Site that will allow you to figure out your top speed in each gear.
You can use the calculator here.

The Rear Gear Ratio is your "final drive."

The Trans Gear Ratios are the ratios for individual gears.

I hope this helpful

Re: Calculating your top speed per gear

Great idea.

Here are some suggestions on how you can improve it:
-Give the option of entering in tire diameter, or the three values themselves (ex. 255/35/18)
-Have saved ratios for some stock cars that users can select from a drop-down menu

Has all that, just enter in your information. Maybe Jeff can improve on it.

Re: Calculating your top speed per gear

Does this help?
http://www.jekylhyderacing.com/HeightofTires.htm

Every manufacturer will be slightly different and/or the tire fitment depending on rim width, but at least this will get you "close."

Re: Calculating your top speed per gear

1st gear: 50 mph if pushed enough
2nd gear: 84
3rd: 130
4th gear: I believe it is around 170 but the car is drag limited

Re: Calculating your top speed per gear

this is Jeffs calc
1st - 30, i easily hit 45....
2nd - 55, hit 67-70ish
3rd - 87, can go past 120 from past experence
4th - 124, ive been about 130ish, with more room to go faster....

guess its not really close

but then i tried stig's calc, and it said

1st - 45
2nd - 83
3rd - 129
4th - 185

this one was way better.

There must be an error somewhere in what was entered
When I put in my numbers into both calculators, they came up EXACTLY the same.

The math is the same, it doesn't change from one calculator to the next.

What numbers did you put into BOTH calculators?

Re: Calculating your top speed per gear

According to the Matt's calculator I get

1st - 50mph
2nd - 85mph
3rd - 130mph
4th - 176mph
5th - 221mph
6th - 275mph

That's a bit high, but interesting nonetheless.

Re: Calculating your top speed per gear

Tire size plays a HUGE role in it.

I use www.f-body.org/gears.
You can enter your tranny's gears if you would like.

1st = 47 MPH
2nd = 70 MPH
3rd = 96 MPH
4th = 125 MPH
5th = 169 MPH
6th = 251 MPH
