89 S-10 died and won't start
Hi, hope someone can help. 89 S-10 2.5 5 speed...Kid was driving home and he said truck lost power and died. We got it home and started investigating...... found a broken wire in the distributor and a fried control mod. Got that taken care of and had spark again but no fuel now (grrrrrrrrrr) replaced the fuel pump switch and now fuel pump is working, but still wont start. Its like the throttle body is dead, the IAC will cycle when you have the code reader plugged in but wont when its not and now getting a code 43. Tried a spare Map sensor that i knew was good and still got code. Any ideas or suggestions? Im tired of scratching my head on this thing.

after swaping out map did you undo the neg to battery for awhile(to reset computer)? if not you will get that code until reset. you have spark and fuel but no start? check for good strong spark(weak will not do). check fuel pressure, too weak wont do. if all is still good, check timming. is fuel comming out of injectors?

Re: 89 S-10 died and won't start
cleared the code, rechecked timing, spark and fuel.... all good. no fuel sprays from injector and iac is dead, but like i said in earlier post.... if ya plug in the code reader it cycles and works. got to be electrical but im not sure what wires go where or what all is in line on those circuits.

Injector plugged in all the way? Sounds like something is wrong there.

Re: 89 S-10 died and won't start
Fuel or spark. Get a can of starting fluid. Take the top off the air cleaner and spray some of the fluid in while someone tries to start it, keep head back in case it backfires. If it starts and runs on the start fluid it's a fuel problem. If not it's ignition related. If the clutch is bad the engine will run, but slip when trying to go. Worse slippage in 4th or 5th gear than first, and usually it will be hard to shift.
