Unhappy racing in peugot 206

I have a problem with my peugot 206 which i believe featured on watchdog a little while ago. My engine keeps racing like mad if i stop at traffic lights or at a junction it just goes berserk but not all the time which is the strange thing, now when i try to pull away after the racing i find it is now cutting out. I have had it in to 2 different garages and have had a diagnostic check on it also today and they cannnot find anythin wrong with it. I was wondering if any one else had the same problem and found out what it was and if they could help me. I am a woman travelling on her own and find it very nerve racking and worrying in case it conks out on me.

Could be due to a vacum leak in the manifold.
would explain the high idle and the lack of power.
have someone check to Air fuel ratio and check for leaks around the intake manifold.
also try cleaning the butterfly
