neon, cooling fan(s) continue to run

hi, i am new to this forum, i have a 1997 plymouth neon, the problem i most recently had was the cooling fans never shut off.
i pulled the fuse and got an error code 35.
the temp gauge reads good and the car doesnt get hot.
a few questions i need answers to:
1) do the fan(s) run when the engine is off
2) is there a fan relay. if so, where is it
3) does the engine control module ECM control fan output
4) is the ECM the large silver box by the left strut tower?
5) where is the logical place to start

thanks

Steve

Replace the relay and/or fuse, it's next to the battery. You will have to take out the battery to get to it and it's close to the headlight.

To answer your questions:
1)No
2)Yes, and see above statement
3)Yes
4)Yes
5)Start with the fuse it's cheaper

Re: neon, cooling fan(s) continue to run

If the fuse were out usually the fan wouldnt come on at all... same thing happened with wifes little 323 turned out to be a relay. Although there is a chance that the sensor is reading infinate hot , but usually the fan would still cut out with ign off. I would hit relay first.

Re: neon, cooling fan(s) continue to run

hey thanks guys, i did do some research on the web and found out a few things.
i replaced the relay it was 80 dollars at the dealer.
it seemed to cure my problem, im wondering if it ever worked before it failed in the "on" position.
form what im told the fans come on when its over 210 and off if unfer 190 thats degrees F, also if the airconditioner is on the fans are supposed to run.
this was never the case in the past, i rarely if never heard tose fans running.
so i get my new and improved relay same relay as caravans and some jeeps
i guess caravans are really hard on them, they go through them alot. i found it and was able to change if form underneath of the car ( i had ramps) works well, thanks again!
