Re: Re: Best Cheap light truck

For what it's worth. I'm on my 3rd. Nissan Pickup. All 2.4 rear wheel drives. And I live in Michigan, where there's lots of snow.. The first one, a 720,=180,000 miles. The second, a 86.5 Hardbody=500,000 miles. My present ,92 Hardbody, is at 257,000 and is used everyday since my wife has the Subaru is FL. None of them world burners, speed wise. But the 720 and the 86 were consistent 30 to 32 miles mph. The 92 has had some engine modification so it only gets 23 to 25. All in all consistent little trucks. I wouldn't be afraid to buy one,at the right price, that has over 100,000 miles. The 2.4s that is. I've heard some horror stories about the Nissan V6s.

If you want something with power, get a Chevy, Ford, or Dodge. It seems like the asian vehicles do fine with the little 4 cylinder engines, but the V6s seem to crap out a lot. I have this theory about that, to summarize: If you use it as a truck, it won't last; if you don't use it as a truck, buy a car.

I have an 89 Mazda B2200, with 94,000 miles. (not lowered, or anything else for that matter) and I find it surprising how much just an 85 hp 2.2 liter engine can haul.....my dad's 87' b2000 (2.0 liter) even weaker engine. towed a car uphill with all of his tools in the back. Very peppy engines, only with the stick. Barebones and practical. They could have used a few more ponies under the hood though. I just recently re-painted mine with a fresh coat of black, and the rims silver. I had about 7 people ask if it was for sale, best offer being 3100 bucks for it. Dont go with Chevy, they are pieces of crap- GM sucks. Ford rangers are nice little trucks. Toyotas are great also, as well as Nissan. if you take care of a mazda b-series, it will last forever. (93'-previous years) In fact I knew one guy that had 350,000 miles on it and it still started up perfect. Try that with a chevy.

Re: Best Cheap light truck

I own a GMC SLE sonoma, just bought it a few months ago for $2K. It has all the options, a recently rebuilt automatic trans and motor and this thing is fast for a low priced truck. It pulls like a champion, and with the overdrive it will go faster than I would ever want to. (The tach is at about 2000 rpm at 70 mph). I am planing on doing the exhaust and intake soon. Buy American, I had a Toyota a few years ago and I alreadly love this truck way more than I ever liked my Toyota.
