'99 Z24 Cavalier Convert. - blower motor resistor

HELP! A while back my #1 and 2 levels on my heat/blower switch stopped working. Wasn't really a big deal at the time because it was summer, and I put the top down all the time anyways. But, this winter my level 3 broke as well, and now if I want to have the heat on, it's gotta be on full blast! I went to a local mechanic this weekend and he said it was my switch. Since the dash needs to come off, he said it would be at least a 6 hour job, and at $80/hr, I'm looking at a hefty repair. My dad thought this might be something he could do, but we're not sure exactly how this is done. Can anyone help?!! Please!
