914 engine swap?

I own a 73 914 with a blown engine, will a 72 VW Beetle engine easily go in place of the original engine? This way I can still drive my car while the original engine gets rebuilt. Thanks for any info.

Re: 914 engine swap?

Yes, I believe these two motors have the same mounts and are interchangable in your 914.

A friend and I are putting a 2003 Subaru WRX engine in his 73 914, so we're getting out of the VW/Porsche engine group altogether

Re: 914 engine swap?

however you probably wouldnt get the performance you were getting. the type 4 engine has better compression and has a completely different head shape. good luck tho!
