Re: Thining about buying new montero

Which montero? There are many and each with different pro's/con's. Alot will also depend on your expected usage.

Mitsu Montero:
Gen 1: 85-89 2 dr, 2.6L I-4 carbuerated engine & 89-91 2 or 4 door, 3.0L V6

Dodge Raider:
Same as Gen I 2 doors

Mitsu Montero:
Gen 2: 92-96 4 dr, 3.0 SOHC, 3.5 DOHC, 3.0 DOHC V6 engine options
Gen 2.5: 97-99 4 dr, 3.0 DOHC or 3.5 SOHC v6 engines
Gen 3: 2000+ 4 dr, 3.5L v6 engines

Mitsu Montero Sport:
Don't know too much about them but they are also quite capable and popular.

Re: Thining about buying new montero

actually it is a brand new one, it has the 3.8 v6 and i know that older ones are still very much alive on the road, and it leads me to believe that they are good quality vehicles, i also had a 95 galant that i prety much drove to the ground 175k miles on it and it still drive good, so it a concern as any persistent issues with the new ones.

Re: Thining about buying new montero

Unfortunately, I don't know much yet about the newest models.

Since my primary use is off road trail riding & rock crawling the last model worth considering for this kind of use is either the Gen II differential locker equiped SR models (94-96) or quite possibly Gen 2.5 models (97-2000).

The Gen III's came out in 2001 in the US (2000 globally). My understanding is that this will be the last year they will be offered because Mitsubishi isn't selling enough Montero's here.

Oh yeah! I'd be all over one of the 2-door TurboDiesel models but again an older one. The newer ones with IFS/IRS are not what you want for the kind of off roading I do. They are very capable for general trail riding and are certainly much more comfortable off road, and I do think they look much more agressive and they are certainly the nicest looking 4x4 mitsu currently sells in the US.

Good luck with your search. You may want to ask on some other mitsubishi 4x4 forums because there isn't so much traffic on this one.
