engine chugging

Hi Guys. New to this site, wonder if you can help me. Basically my engine is chugging, especially when cold. It will run o.k. when it is up to full temp. Might it be dirty petrol or a faulty cat. converter. BTW it is a 2.0 LT TS. Any ideas? Cally
