96 Achieva release brakes = clunk noise
My 96 Achieva brakes fine when I need to stop, but the problem happens when I release the brakes when a light turns green or after coming to a dead stop. When I take my foot off the break, I usually hear a clunk, thunk, or some type of noise coming from the rear of the car. I was wondering, could my rear brakes be sticking for a few seconds and then releasing suddenly instead of smoothly? or what - thats my only guess. Any help as to the nature of the problem or where to start looking would be greatly appreciated.

Re: 96 Achieva release brakes = clunk noise
It is very possible that the rear brakes are sticking and then releasing with a clunk. This often happens when the brakes are worn and then stick in the drums. I would pull them and check them out especially the diameter of the drums. Also there is a possibility that the springs are getting weak and not allowing them to return smoothly.
