89 s10 blazer 4.3 cuts off when stopping at a light

My 89 blazer just stops running with the check engine light and the battery light on when i stop at a red light. I can start it right back up and drive fine. the truck drives smooth. if the truck dosnt shut off at the light somtimes it might start to stutter and buck as if it is loosing power or just shut off seconds after i stop. someone please help!!

Hello,

If you are not noticing any strange engine noise I would suspect the IAC (idle air control). They tend to get carboned up.

If the check engine light is on all the time look at the MAP (manifold absolute pressure) sensor.

listen for the whistle of a vacuum leak. possibly torn diaphragm in egr valve. definitely could also be iac or map. but i would first look for a vacuum leak as it is the most common i see come into our shop with the problem you describe.

Make sure your throtle body is bolted down tight, the base gaskets are known to leak. Have you changed your fuel filter. It sounds like a air or fuel problem.

Four words: Throttle body rebuild kit.

You're lucky. My injectors just stopped altogether. Now I gotta figure out if it's the injector pulse or the fuel pressure regulator. I already checked the fuel pressure itself.

Ya' know... could it be that the curb idle screw is set wrong? That might be worth looking into, if anyone's ever adjusted it wrong.
